Protecting Service Penetrations in Fire Rated Construction

Protecting Service Penetrations in Fire Rated Construction
Learn about the complex and often misunderstood National Construction Code (NCC) 2016 and Australian Standard requirements for the protection of service penetrations through fire resistant barriers.

Passive fire protection is a required essential life safety measure that provides barriers to restrict and contain a fire to a limited area within a building. It is critical that any penetrations through these barriers are correctly protected to retain the fire resistance integrity of the barrier.

If you design, install or inspect services within buildings, are you aware of:

  1. The passive fire protection barriers in the building;
  2. The Code and Standard requirements to protect the openings created in these barriers by service penetrations; and
  3. The necessary evidence of suitability to ensure you have the right protection method for the application.

Is your services installation work causing the passive fire protection systems to become non-compliant?  Is your work endangering occupants?  Is your work placing increased risk onto the owner, your client and your company?

The seminar will explain: passive fire resistance, the general National Construction Code passive fire protection requirements, the types of building elements, the types of passive fire protections systems, the specific options of Clause C3.15, the documentation required to verify compliance and common misconceptions.
