Fire Australia + HazMat 2016 - Massive Free Tradeshow

The Tradeshow is a main feature of the event, with more than 90 exhibition booths and more than 1000 people expected to attend over the two days.

Best of all it is entirely free to attend! The tradeshow also features a dedicated presentation area called the "Showcase Theatre" which will feature a range of interesting presentations from key speakers and exhibitors on the latest industry information.

This year the Fire Australia & HazMat Conference & Tradeshow will be running along side DesignBUILD, the ultimate industry event for architecture, building, construction & design.

This year anyone who pre-registers for the free Fire Australia + HazMat Tradeshow will have access to the DesignBUILD Expo, and vice versa, meaning even more reasons to attend.

Help Us to Support the Fiona Wood Foundation!

Our charity for Fire Australia + HaMat 2016 is the Fiona Wood Foundation. Spearheaded by plastic and reconstructive surgeon and burns specialist Professor Fiona Wood AM, the Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation facilitating the translation of knowledge from ground breaking scientific and clinical research into pioneering new treatments for healing burns and minimising scarring.

There are two ways you can support this worthy cause.

You can make a donation of any amount by contacting us via donations@fpaa.com.au or by calling us on 03 8892 3131. Donations are tax deductible.

Better yet, we would love for you to join us at our annual charity dinner on the evening of Wednesday May 4 and hear from Fiona Wood directly about the work of the Foundation. Taking place at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground, this year's annual charity dinner promises to be one of the best in the event's history.

To top it off, sporting and media personality Max Walker, and AFL Bulldogs legend Doug Hawkins are joining us for the evening. We encourage guests to dress to impress in a sporting theme. There will be prizes and plenty of fun activities and networking for industry guests.

This year the Dinner is a separately ticketed event and is not included with conference registrations. Tickets are selling fast and are unlikely to be available to purchase at the conference, so register now to avoid disappointment later.

Click here to register for the Charity Dinner. To make a donation please email donations@fpaa.com.au or call 03 8892 3131.

AS 1851-2012 Now Approved for Use in Victoria
FPAA

Victoria has now regulated to provide for the use of AS 1851-2012, despite the version referenced on an occupancy permit or maintenance determination. You can view the amendment here.

This is a much-needed positive outcome after years of advocacy by FPA Australia to ensure the new best practice version of the standard could be used in Victoria.

The announcement is also highly significant as Victoria was the final state to adopt the new standard, meaning every state and territory in Australia can now use AS 1851-2012.

CSIRO Releases Facade Safety Guidelines Document
FPAA

CSIRO has recently released an important document to assist in clarifying fire safety requirements for external walls. You can view the document here.

"Fire Safety Guideline for External Walls" has been compiled by CSIRO's Infrastructure technologies team along with external stakeholders including FPA Australia.

This document is intended to aid building practitioners in understanding the fire hazards of external wall materials and pathways to demonstrate compliance with the requirements of the National Construction Code.

Queensland Membership Group Engagement Event a Strong Success

Queensland FPA Australia members held their first engagement event for the year in April with excellent presentations from Board Director Graeme Thom, Shawn Brosnan from TT Building Surveyors and FPA Australia Deputy CEO and Chief Technical Officer Matthew Wright.

Attendees participated in discussions on many of the issues surrounding the current occupational licensing regime in Queensland including the use of Form 15 & 16 as well as the current state of QBCC licensing and proposed reforms.

The Association received strong feedback from many attendees about the quality of the content and we would like to thank all speakers, the Queensland Leadership Team and attendees for making it a great engagement opportunity for all.

In order to keep the great momentum from this event going, the Queensland membership group has already locked in its next event on Wednesday 8 June! Keep your eyes on our upcoming event page at www.fpaa.com.au/events for more information soon.
