Wormald Acquisition Finalised

On December 4, 2015 Tyco entered into an agreement to sell the Wormald Australian fire business to Wormald International, LLC (“Wormald”), a newly established subsidiary of Evergreen Capital, L.P. This sale has now been officially completed.

Wormald in Australia is now being led by Andrew Lee Chief Executive Officer, and a number of existing key Wormald personnel. Wormald is committed to being a dedicated fire business that is focused on delivering the specialised fire expertise it is renowned for. The business will also benefit from a less centralised and more flexible business structure, with regional-based decision making driving the business forward.

Seminar: Fire Protection Maintenance Requirements in Victoria (AS 1851-2012)

You are invited to an informative seminar on the latest fire protection maintenance requirements for Victoria, to be held over two days, March 30 & 31, 2016 at the Holmesglen Conference Centre in Melbourne.

The Victorian Building Authority (VBA) has published a new Practice Note (PN23 - Maintenance of Essential Safety Measures) that sets out the regulatory and best practice requirements for the maintenance of fire protection systems and equipment.

The Practice Note acknowledges the use of AS 1851-2012 (Routine Service of Fire Protection Systems & Equipment) as an appropriate standard for routine servicing of fire protection systems and equipment in all buildings.

The new Practice Note and AS 1851-2012 include fundamental changes to fire protection maintenance that will be covered at these seminars.

Delivering Our 2020 Vision - Free Transitional Accreditation

In 2016 FPA Australia is continuing its 2020 vision initiative - to see that all individuals working in the fire protection industry are competent and accredited by 2020.

In order to achieve this important goal the Association has made it possible for all FPA Australia Corporate Members to gain Transitional accreditation status for all inspect & test technicians free of charge.

Members will then have until Jan 1, 2020 to transition their technicians to Qualified status, and the Association is offering a significant training subsidy (up to 40% off inspect & test training) to assist in this process.

In coming weeks all Corporate members will receive a promotional post card (Pictured) which includes all the instructions you need to begin the processes of getting your technicians accredited. For more information please contact the Accreditation & Licensing Department on 03 8892 3131 or via email

FPA Australia Remembers Mr Mark Brown

Sadly, we were recently informed of the passing of Mr Mark Brown, Wormald Technology National Marine Manager ANZ, on the 11th January 2016. Mark passed away after a short battle with cancer.

Mark started his career in the marine industry in Sydney but soon followed opportunities to Papua New Guinea, where he lived for several years.  After Mark's return to Australia he came to the attention of Wormald and was offered a sales position in the newly created marine division in 1995.

New Technical Document - Isolation Valves

FPA Australia has recently released a new Technical Document - IB-12 Isolation valves for fire sprinkler and hydrant systems.

There has been and continues to be a misunderstanding of which type of isolation valves are allowed to be installed in automatic fire sprinkler systems and fire hydrant systems. Sometimes certain parts of these installations are carried out by contractors who may not be overly familiar with the codes and standards these fire protection systems must comply with.

Through our Technical Advisory Committee TAC 4/8/9 the Association has produced an Information Bulletin in relation to this issue.
