FPA Australia Presents at Senate Inquiry
FPAA

On Thursday April 7 representatives from FPA Australia, (Chief Technical Officer and Deputy CEO Matthew Wright and TAC 11/22 Chair Brett Staines), presented at a federal Senate inquiry hearing into defence force use of firefighting foams in Australia.

The inquiry has been set up specifically to address the issue of PFOS and PFOA contamination at the RAAF Base in Williamtown, NSW as well as other Australian Defence Force facilities.

Fire Australia + HazMat 2016 Full Program Released
FPAA

You can now access the full detailed program for the Fire Australia + HazMat Conference & Tradeshow to be held on May 4 & 5 at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre. 

This year's program runs across three important presentation streams - Technical, Strategic and HazMat, with acclaimed international and local keynote speakers across all streams as well as informative panel sessions.

 
Lacrosse Apartment Building Surveyor to Face Disciplinary Action 

Following an extensive investigation, the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) has referred the relevant building surveyor (RBS), involved in the building of the Lacrosse Apartments in Melbourne's Docklands for disciplinary action by the Building Practitioners Board (BPB).

 
NSW STMG on Lambert Report a Great Success 
FPAA

On Wednesday March 9 FPA Australia held an informative free information session on proposed legislative reforms as part of the NSW Membership Group Meeting. 

The focus of the seminar was on the recommended reforms and implications of the Independent Review of the Building Professionals Act 2005 commissioned by the NSW Government and the requirements of the Design & Certify classes of FPAS accreditation.

The Association was pleased to have the Review's Authour Mr Michael Lambert on hand (pictured right) who provided the 140 strong audience a unique insight into the issues facing the NSW building, construction and fire protection industries.

 
New Standard on Fire Propagation of External Walls - AS 5113 Published

Standards Australia recently completed the development of AS 5113, Fire propagation testing and classification of external walls of buildings.

The standard sets out procedures for testing and classification of external walls according to their tendency to limit the spread of fire across their surface and between neighbouring buildings.

 
Board of Directors Meet & Greet - NSW April 12

FPA Australia members are being reminded about our Board of Directors "meet and greet' next week. The event is a free forum for Association members to chat with the FPA Australia Board of Directors about the current state of the fire protection industry and issues impacting you.

Topics for discussion will include:
- Accreditation within the industry
- Future direction of training and support for members in NSW
- Any other matters relevant to members

Chris Orr Appointed FPA Australia Technical Director and FPA NZ Board Observer
FPAA

FPA Australia is pleased to announce that Board Vice President Mr Chris Orr has been appointed as the new Association Technical Director. This position was formally known as the National Technical Advisory Group Chair, a position also held by Mr Orr. The new role better reflects the Association's significant range of technical activities undertaken today.

In addition, Mr Orr has also recently been appointed to the Fire Protection Association New Zealand (FPA NZ) Board of Directors as an Observer on behalf of FPA Australia. In this role Mr Orr will provide strategic advice to FPA NZ. The Association congratulates Mr Orr on these important achievements. 

 
Options for Adopting AS 1851-2012 Previewed by VBA at Victorian Seminar

Last week, during the regulatory session on day one of our Maintenance Requirements in Victoria seminar, Jarrod Edwards, Director, Technical & Regulation at Victorian Building Authority outlined possible amendments to the Victorian regulations for consideration that would facilitate the voluntary adoption of AS 1851-2012.

 
Important Logo Use Changes for Corporate Members

FPA Australia is reminding all Corporate members about important changes that will apply to the use of FPA Australia logos by Members from July 1, 2016.

At this time the old Corporate member logos and Code of Practice Compliant logos can no longer be used at all including on any materials, on member websites or email signatures. These changes have been made to ensure members utilise our new Corporate member logos in line with our most up to date Association branding.

 

 

Bushfire Practitioner Accreditation Levels 2 & 3 Added in WA

The Western Australian Government has announced that Fire Protection Association Australia is now recognised as a Level 1, 2 and 3 accrediting body for bushfire practitioners operating in Western Australia.

The State Government is committed to developing a professional training and accreditation system for bushfire practitioners to inform land use planning and building decisions in bushfire prone areas.

 
Queensland Members! Don't Miss Your Membership Group Engagement Event

Queensland FPA Australia Members are invited to attend the discussion of the new BCA 2016 and the Assessments for Form 15 & Form 16 in QLD at the upcoming free Membership Group engagement event on Wednesday 20 April, 8AM-11am.

There will be an update on the activities of the QBCC Fire Protection Working Group, including the development of a QBCC fire licence template, as well as general discussion on the future reform of QBCC licences.

 
Upcoming Seminar AS 1670.1: 2015 - What it Means For You

FPA Australia will soon announce dates and locations for an industry update seminar detailing major changes in the design, installation, commissioning and certification of fire detection and alarm systems including smoke control.

 
CFPA International and Asia Meetings in Melbourne

Both the International and Asia bodies of the Confederation of Fire Protection Associations (CFPA) will be meeting in Melbourne over May 4 and 5, surrounding the Fire Australia + HazMat Conference & Tradeshow.

As a regular attendee and strong supporter of CFPA Asia, FPA Australia is pleased to be hosting this important series of meetings in Melbourne.
