Information on Becoming an FPA Australia Platinum Member
The Association has recently received a number of enquiries regarding the process and requirements for becoming a Platinum member.
Platinum membership is reserved for those companies or organisations that wish to take a highly active role in the fire protection industry and the activities of the Association. Corporate and Organisation Platinum is the highest level of membership available within FPA Australia and these members receive significant extra benefits.
Because of this, Platinum members are only approved based on application to the Association's Board of Directors and the total number of Platinum members is limited to a small group of companies and organisations.
Strict criteria apply for acceptance as a Platinum member. Click here to view the detailed Platinum member criteria. To view more information about Platinum membership including additional benefits and pricing, download the Platinum membership benefits flyer.
We encourage any interested business or organisation to contact our Chief Executive Officer Scott Williams to discuss Platinum membership by email to firstname.lastname@example.org or call 03 8892 3131.
Fire Protection Accreditation Scheme Update
There is a huge amount of activity underway within the Association's Fire Protection Accreditation Scheme (FPAS).
Work on the next two classes of accreditation: Fire Systems Design and Fire Systems Certification, is progressing well and we expect to begin accepting formal applications for these classes in the coming months. The Association is also taking expressions of interest for these accreditation classes and if you would like to submit your interest please email email@example.com.
The Association will be rolling out detailed information / consultation sessions on the new classes of accreditation shortly and we will be making announcements about timing of these sessions in the near future.
In addition, the Association has just launched a new "Code of Professional Conduct" which applies to all individuals accredited under one of the Association's accreditation schemes. You can read more about the Code in this edition of Fire Signals.
To learn more about FPAS visit the scheme web page here or call 03 8892 3131.
2015 National Construction Code Information Seminars
In June 2014 FPA Australia was confirmed as a representative body on the Australian Building Codes Board's Building Codes Committee for the first time. FPA Australia’s participation in this national committee has already included a review of proposals for change and public comments to the draft BCA 2015.
In addition FPA Australia has learnt first-hand about ABCB’s proposed reform agenda that includes but is not limited to; free BCA access, a three year amendment cycle instead of annual and the introduction of verification methods to increase the use of alternative solutions to meet the performance requirements.
To keep up to date with the changes for fire protection and the ABCB’s reform agenda, FPA Australia recommends that all members attend the upcoming NCC seminars. To register and obtain further information please visit www.abcb.gov.au.
Code of Professional Conduct Launched
FPA Australia is pleased to release its Code of Professional Conduct.
The Code has been produced for all individuals who sign up to any existing FPA Australia accreditation scheme (currently FPAS and BPAD) as well as any future accreditation schemes that may be developed by the Association.
FPA Australia accreditation schemes have been developed in order to provide a consistent approach to recognising individuals who have the minimum competencies in the fire protection field they work in.
The Code sets out the principles, standards of behaviour and service delivery requirements for all accredited individuals. Individuals required to comply with the Code will receive a printed copy on application or renewal. To download the digital version of the code click here. For more information on FPA Australia Accreditation & Licensing click here or call 03 8892 3131.
WA Bushfire Accreditation Framework Officially Introduced
The Western Australian Government has formally introduced a Framework for the accreditation and training of Level 1 Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) Assessors as part of a commitment to having a professional fire consultant industry.
The Framework was developed by the WA State Government and is based on FPA Australia's BPAD Scheme which currently operates in NSW and Victoria. The Framework allows for multiple organisations to be endorsed as "Accrediting Bodies" who will be required to operate an accreditation scheme in accordance with the Framework.
As a first stage, the Framework provides for the accreditation and training of people as Accredited Level 1 BAL Assessors. During 2015, the Framework will be further developed to include two additional (progressive) levels of practitioners: Level 2 Bushfire Planning Practitioners and Level 3 Bushfire Planning and Design Practitioners.
FPA Australia has submitted its application to become an Accrediting Body and we hope to have more news on this important initiative in weeks to come. For information regarding bushfire accreditation visit www.fpaa.com.au/bpad.
