FPA Australia NBN Co Working Group
Detailed Copper Disconnection Information Coming Soon

As the National Broadband Network (NBN) is rolled out across the country, disconnection of copper phone lines to premises that have received a direct fibre to the premises (FTTP) connection raises some important issues for the fire protection industry. Of core concern is the potential impact this disconnection may have on the functionality of fire protection equipment, including alarm panels, sprinklers and other equipment monitored by alarm signalling equipment (ASE).

FPA Australia is currently working directly with NBN Co via a special working group. This group is meeting regularly to workshop these critical issues, define areas of potential concern and map out solutions.

With the first of the copper disconnections occurring from May 2014 (for those 15 areas that have already received NBN fibre as part of the first stage of the rollout) it is critical that all FPA Australia members are
aware of the implications and have full, accurate and up to date information. This is particularly important for those member companies involved in the manufacture, installation, distribution and testing of equipment monitored by ASE as required by regulation.

Over coming weeks and months you will see significant communications content distributed by FPA Australia in relation to this issue in consultation with NBN Co. In addition, dedicated information on the subject will shortly begin to appear on the FPA Australia website.

Keep your eye out for more information on the activities of the FPA Australia / NBN Co working group over coming weeks and for general information about the NBN in Australia visit  www.nbnco.com.au.

New Fixed Price on Certificate II in Fire Protection Inspection & Testing  Qualification

From 1 January 2014 FPA Australia will be moving to a set price for enrolment and assessment in the qualification CPP20511 Certificate II in Fire Protection Inspection & Testing.

Technicians will be able to enrol in the required seven core subjects and select six electives from a choice of 23 and pay a set fee rather than calculate individual fees for each subject. The new pricing structure will not only simplify the process, it will also save most technicians between $200 - $500 and membership discounts and educational vouchers will still apply.

In the lead up to this change, from 1 November - 31 December 2013 technicians can enrol using either the current pricing scale or the new pricing scale. Our Learning & Development department will ensure that anyone who enrols into this qualification from now until the end of this year will always receive the cheapest option. For further information or enrolment contact training@fpaa.com.au or call 1300 731 922.
