FPA Australia Rolls Out All New Membership Structure

Fire Protection Association Australia (FPA Australia) is pleased to announce our updated membership structure that will take effect on July 1, 2012.  

As part of the Association's strategic direction the new membership framework and criteria will now apply to both Organisation and Corporate categories, in order to better reflect our members and the industry. Importantly, the criteria for both Organisation and Corporate memberships has now been changed from annual company turnover to total employee numbers.

FPA Australia Corporate & Organisation members receive a range of benefits including access to CONNECT, Fire Australia Magazine, Learning & Development discounts, discounts on sales centre items, event entry discounts, representation on technical committees, Qantas club discounts, educational vouchers, FPA Australia technical documents and much more.

Bill Lea Recognised with an Australian Fire Service Medal

FPA Australia Director and long-standing Association member William (Bill) Lea has been awarded an Australian Fire Service Medal (AFSM) as part of the 2012 Queen's Birthday Honours List.

Mr Lea began his firefighting career in 1979 when he joined th
e West Pennant Hills Bush Fire Brigade where he served as Deputy Captain.

He has since served with distinction across every key function of the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) and his career also includes service with the NSW Fire Brigade.


In addition to this vast legacy of work Mr Lea is actively involved in the fire protection industry, as both a member of FPA Australia since 2000 and a Director on the Association’s Board since 2010.






 FPA Australia Code of Practice Review

FPA Australia is currently reviewing and updating its Code of Practice. This will ensure that the Code continues to be relevant to members and is highly reflective of the changing nature of the fire protection industry in Australia.
 
The Code prescribes the principles, standards of behaviour and service delivery requirements of all FPA Australia members. Consultation has begun on the Code’s review to identify areas of the code that require revision.

All FPA Australia members will have an opportunity to provide feedback on the updated Code when a draft version is distributed in coming months. For more information about the Code of Practice review please contact Denise Friend on 03 9890 1544 or email denise.friend@fpaa.com.au  





FPA Australia's Bob Goninon Gives His 500th Gift Of Life

FPA Australia Learning & Development Specialist Bob Goninon has this month made his 500th donation at the Ringwood Blood Donor Centre.

Bob first became a blood donor in 1970 and has contin
ued to donate regularly ever since. Bob has now given approximately 400 litres, or 2 x 44 gallon drums worth of blood and plasma. He has travelled 137,150 km to attend the blood donor centre and has sat in the donation chair for a total of 95 days.

Approximately 1,500 people have received the lifesaving gift of blood products as a result of Bob's generous donations. FPA Australia would like to congratulate Bob on this incredible ongoing effort to provide this vital gift to the community.

WA Fire Expo 2012 - South Perth Community Centre, July 26

On Thursday July 26 the inaugural WA Fire Expo will be held at the South Perth Community Centre.

The WA Fire Expo 2012 will showcase local FPA Australia member's products and services for the fire protection industry and affiliated industries. The expo is also an ideal opportunity to network with colleagues and industry associates.

FPA Australia is proud to announce that Fire Australia Magazine is now available as a digital download to Association members via the CONNECT online resource platform.


Members can access the magazines by selecting the "downloads" tab in CONNECT and then selecting "Fire Australia Magazine"

FPA Australia Learning & Development Department Update

FPA Australia's Learning & Development Department continues to grow with two new appointments over recent months:

Lee Kindler (left) has been appointed as a Technical Writer as the Association updates a number of training materials. Damon Seddon (right) has also been appointed to assist in updating these materials and will later transition into a training role.

In addition to these appointments the Department is currently seeking a permanent qualified trainer/assessor to deliver nationally recognised training.

The role is based in FPA Australia's head office in Melbourne but the successful applicant will be required to travel interstate to tr
ain and assess students. The successful applicant will enjoy the benefits of working in a friendly team that values their experience and knowledge.
