Bushfire Water Spray Systems Update

In December 2011 Standards Australia released draft Australian Standard DR AS 5414 – Bushfire Water Spray Systems with public comment submissions closing on 8 February 2012.

Following the Black Saturday bushfires in Victoria, the Bushfire Cooperative Research Centre’s research report found a strong influence of the presence of sprinkler systems on house survival. The Victorian Bushfires Royal Commission (the Commission) heard evidence from a number of lay witnesses who gave accounts of the role sprinklers played in protecting their properties; some witnesses gave positive accounts whilst others spoke of sprinkler failures.
