ODS & SGG Learning and Assessment Resource Development Awards
The Fire Protection Association Australia (FPA Australia) and the Fire Protection Industry (ODS & SGG) Board recently paid tribute to a number of companies and individuals at a specially held luncheon in Canberra.
The acknowledgment was for their outstanding contribution to the development of learning and assessment resources to support the rollout of ODS & SGG extinguishing agent handling licences across Australia.
Current Chairman of the Fire Protection Industry Board, Mr Chris Orr, was in attendance, along with all current FPA Australia Board members and representatives from the Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities (DSEWPaC).
The following organisations and individuals went above and beyond what was required to develop the ODS & SGG learning and assessment resources, giving their time and knowledge, resources, technical support and providing reviews.

Special mention was also given to Geoff Warren, who coordinated the industry wide development of the project and was involved from the initial stages.
On March 31 the final stage of this major learning and assessment resource development project, which undertaken by FPA Australia in conjunction with the DSEWPaC, and the Construction and Property Services Industry Skills Council (CPSISC), was completed.
In total, 90 paper-based learning and assessment resources, two CD learning resources and one website are now available to support the nationally endorsed units of competency listed withinthe Ozone Protection and Synthetic Greenhouse Gas Management Regulations 1995.
FPA Australia’s own technical advisory committees: TAC-2/3 and TAC-11/22, played key roles in the project’s success, as did the association technical writers.

Asset Maintenance (Fire Protection Equipment) Training and Assessment
FPA Australia is conducting training and assessment for a range of units from the Certificates II and III in Asset Maintenance (Fire Protection Equipment) in Adelaide in November and Perth in December. Training and Assessment for the qualified EAHL
FPA Australia’s Learning & Development Specialist, Bob Goninon (pictured right), will soon be conducting assessments for units required for the Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) & Synthetic Greenhouse Gases (SGG) Qualified Extinguishing Agents Handling Licence (EAHL). Bob will be in Adelaide 14th & 15th November; in Karratha 10th – 12th December and in Perth 14th & 15th December. FPA Australia appoint new Senior Technical Officer
FPA Australia has recently welcomed Chris Wyborn to the team in the role of Senior Technical Officer.
Chris (pictured right) brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise having spent the last 10 years with the Country Fire Authority (CFA) in areas ranging from dangerous goods, structural fire safety and land use planning relating to bushfires.
He bolsters the skills of FPA Australia’s expanding technical team, with his formal qualifications including a Certificate IV in Fire Technology, Graduate Certificate in Performance Based Building and Fire Codes, Diploma in Bushfire Protection as well as various Training & Assessment qualifications.
“To secure someone of Chris’s background and knowledge of the Built Environment, Maintenance, Dangerous Goods and a qualified Trainer & Assessor is a tremendous asset to the association,” said FPA Australia CEO, Scott Williams.
The Association has also added three other new staff members in Sharon Brown (Learning & Development Coordinator), Rachael Snell (Reception/ Administration Officer) and Katie Penman (Membership Services Administrator).
