Registrations now open for HazMat 2011  

Registrations are now open for the HazMat 2011 Conference and Exhibitrion.

HazMat 2011, to be held on May 11-12 at the Sydney Showgrounds, is a two day conference on the latest directions and compliance requirements for chemical management, hazardous substances and dangerous goods to help achieve sustainable outcomes.

It continues to be the key hazardous materials and chemical management conference and exhibition in Australia.

Presentations by leading industry experts and an international keynote speaker will cover current and future issues, such as:

• New regulations and GHS
• Chemical management
• Security and training
• Life cycle assessment
• Risk assessment
• Chemical emergencies
• Reactive hazards
• Dangerous goods

FPA Australia Tasmania Division Golf Day


The Fire Protection Association Australia (Tas Division) Golf Day for 2011 will be held on Friday 15 April at the Claremont Golf Club.
This fundraising event is the sole means of raising the capital to fund the costs associated with running the Tasmanian Branch of the FPA Australia, and the necessary and highly valuable contribution it makes to the fire services industry both within Tasmania and Australia.

Old yeller can't protect you anymore


The Fire Protection Industry (ODS & SGG) Board reminds companies and individuals that it is an offence to hold any halon unless they hold a Halon Special Permit or where approved by the regulations.
Where any person in the fire protection industry becomes aware of any sources of halon, other than that permitted by the Regulations, they need to comply or face legal action. The Regulations state that as soon as practicable the person should hand the halon to:
1. the officer in charge of a fire station; or
2. the holder of an extinguishing agent trading authorisation; or
3. the operation of an approved extinguishing agent destruction facility. (National Halon Bank).
