Fire Action Week 2010 launched

Fire Protection Association Australia (FPA Australia) is encouraging everyone to get involved in Fire Action Week 2010 and prepare for the approaching fire season.

Fire Action Week 2010 will run from October 10-17 and centres around a host of community events that focus on the need for forming effective fire plans and making sure properties are prepared for the summer months.

FPA Australia members and interested parties are encouraged to visit the interactive calendar of events at the Country Fire Authority (CFA) website at  for more information on how you can get involved in the week.

“It is vital that all Victorians and other Bushfire prone areas around the country show due diligence in preparing their homes for the upcoming fire season,” FPA Australia CEO, Mr Scott Williams, said.

“Victoria is one of the most fire-prone areas anywhere in the world, so it’s imperative home-owners educate themselves on how to best prepare in the event of fire.

“Fire Action Week 2010 is a wonderful initiative by the Victorian Government and we urge everyone to make use of the many products and services available to help plan for their individual fire risk” Williams said.

This is the second annual Fire Action Week, which was created last year following the Black Saturday bushfires in February of 2009.

Victorians will receive an open letter from Victorian Premier, Mr John Brumby, this week in a bid to make them better prepared in the event of bushfire.

The Government is also expected to announce new fire season changes throughout the week.
